The Maine Automobile Dealers Association is the state-wide organization of franchised new car and truck dealers. MADA was organized in December, 1944 to represent the interests of the dealer body before the Maine Legislature and various state and federal regulatory bodies. In addition to carrying on this task, MADA works closely with the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) in presenting dealer issues to the Maine Congressional delegation. All new car and truck dealers in Maine are members of MADA. Dealership employment numbers approximately 6000 at 134 licensed facilities in all sections of Maine. Dealers sell new and used vehicles, and provide parts and accessories as well as repair services to the general public.
In addition to governmental representation, MADA provides bulletin service and holds educational workshops, regional meetings, an annual convention, and in-dealership training for member dealerships and their employees. The MADA Insurance Trust was established in 1950 to assist dealerships in providing employees and their families with Life, Disability, Medical and Dental insurance. In 1985, the MADA Workers Compensation Trust began servicing the dealership need to cover work-related injury and illness for its employees.
